About the Opportunity

BEW is seeking a Data System Engineer to expand our capabilities in data acquisition and analysis systems (DAS). DAS are used to evaluate energy generation (primarily Photovoltaic and Wind related) components and complete systems in both field and laboratory settings. The ideal candidate would be an engineer looking to apply his or her software and hardware engineering skills to the rapidly-growing renewable energy market. Specific duties include:

  • Develop requirements and specifications based on client or job needs
  • Determine appropriate hardware and software solutions using in-house tools and outside vendors
  • Develop software as needed using standard programming tools such as C++, Visual Basic, Perl/Python, and SQL as well as proprietary hardware-specific tools. Software includes monitoring and control, data collection and distribution, database development, web based display (www.pierminigrid.showdata.org).
  • Perform/support design and fabrication of monitoring equipment including dataloggers, transducers (electrical, mechanical, temperature, weather, etc.), signal conditioning, wiring harness, enclosures, etc.
  • Perform/support installation, calibration, troubleshooting of fielded monitoring equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and 2+ years experience in data monitoring–related activities or 5+ years experience in data monitoring–related activities
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with or strong desire and ability to learn about Photovoltaics and Wind energy systems performance
  • Experience developing embedded systems, use of microprocessor, knowledge of power electronics
  • Advanced engineering degree
